  • Pi Kappa Alpha Wins the First Annual Greenest Fraternity and Sorority Design Contest

VCU Sustainability Committee hosted the first annual Greenest Fraterntiy and Sorority Design Contest on America Recycles Day which was on Monday, November 15, 2010.  Ten teams from different Greek organizations assembled their own sculpture using only recycled and reused bottles and cans.  Teams were given one hour to "creatively" and "sustainably" assemble a sculpture.  Members on the Pi Kappa Alpha team included Andrew Yi, John Ruiz, Robbie Evans, Josh Stafford, and Walter Worsham.  In one hour, they were able to assemble a bicycle sculpture using plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard.  The idea of creating a bicycle came from notion of Going Green, sustainability, and VCU being a biking community.  A plaque was installed on a recycling container by the Commons Plaza to commemorate the fraternity's achievement in January 2011.
