FIVE IDEALS SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The Beta Nu Chapter of the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda at Virginia Commonwealth University (
http://www.aklbetanu.com) is extremely proud to announce that the recipients of the First Annual
Five Ideals Freshman Scholarship are David Mazzocco and Clinton Yeaman. They will each receive a $500 scholarship toward their tuition and fees for their Freshman year at VCU. David and Clinton showed exemplary performance in academics and superior community involvement, reflected in their applications and essays they submitted.

The Five Ideals Freshman Scholarship was created by the Beta Nu Chapter in 2010 and named after AKL's Five Ideals of Judeo-Christian Principals, Leadership, Scholarship, Loyalty, and Self-Support. It is the hope of the chapter that two incoming freshman each year will be awarded the Five Ideals Scholarship.

The Beta Nu Chapter of the Fraternity of Alpha Kappa Lambda is the undergraduate chapter of the national fraternity, and was chartered in September, 1985. This year, 2010, they are celebrating their 25th continuous year of providing undergraduate "Men of Character" a superior fraternity experience. Continuing their tradition of community involvement, in 2010, Beta Nu will host it's 22nd annual Halloween Watch, where they, along with other members of the VCU Greek Community patrol the streets of Richmond's Fan District to help keep a safe environment for children to trick-or-treat.

Alpha Kappa Lambda was founded on April 22, 1914 by a group of young men attending the University of California, Berkeley. Its birth, however, dates back to 1906 when a group of friends discussed the "need of Christian men for a place to live and study that was within their (financial) means." Among their various national service projects are, "These Hands Don't Hurt," "Cystic Fibrosis," and "Adopt-A-School."
