Fraternities play an important role in the Richmond Metropolitan area by donating their time to serve in the communities. Every year IFC fraternities volunteer for two of Richmond’s biggest events, the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10K and the SunTrust Marathon, where runners come from all over the east coast to participate in the races. Like scholarship, service is also one of the main values all fraternities in the IFC were established upon. At VCU, Fraternity & Sorority Life recognized its significance, and a service day has been included as part of the events during Greek Week last spring. In addition to volunteering for many local organizations, every fraternity in the IFC is committed to supporting at least one charitable organization. Furthermore, the Interfraternity Council, itself, has officially adopted the Central VA Food Bank as its charitable organization last spring.
